Rene Gonzales has been playing guitar since 1988. Born in LA and raised in the Monterey Park area, he is the son of a professional musician. Rene was very active in music programs
during high school, including concert band, marching band, and jazz band; his musical tastes and knowledge expanded beyond rock music to include classical, blues, jazz, funk, and Latin.
Rene considered various music institutions of advanced musical studies before deciding on G.I.T. at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood, CA; maintaining a 3.8 GPA throughout his time
at G.I.T. from 1997-2000. Instead of going full-time as a performance and session music artist after graduating, Rene fueled another passion in the art of the guitar by enrolling at G.I.T.'s
new Guitar Craft Academy, becoming quite the young master in the craft of designing and building precision custom guitars.
After graduating from GCA in 2001, he was hired by
ESP Guitars as a quality control specialist, and soon advancing to the position of chief custom guitar tech
for the world renown guitar manufacturer, and became the go-to guy for repairing and modifying the guitars for some of the top players in the music industry. Rene helped the
Japan-based ESP company establish its first USA-based manufacturing facility of high-end electric guitars for the first time in its 40 year history in 2013, and although he
made an unexpected career change after becoming a full-time husband and father, Rene continues to teach, play, and do guitar repairs/mods in Alhambra, CA, where he resides
with his wife and son.
